Mesquite, Texas – Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) released the following statement applauding Canadian Solar’s $250 million investment in building a solar manufacturing plant in Mesquite, which is part of the 32nd District. The plant will create 1,500 jobs and will produce as many as 20,000 solar panels a day. Importantly, this project would not be possible without the financial incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act, which aim to bolster solar energy manufacturing and production.

“Texas is already a leader in wind energy, and this manufacturing plant will help us take the lead in solar production while creating 1,500 jobs along the way,” said Allred. “The Inflation Reduction Act was designed to incentivize projects just like this and I am proud that Canadian Solar chose Mesquite to build this facility. Texas has the best workers and we are ready to lead the next generation of solar manufacturing.”

This will be Canadian Solar’s first United States manufacturing facility and follows the placement of its development arm, Recurrent Energy, in Austin in 2021.

According to Bloomberg, there has been a manufacturing boom in the United States after the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act – which Allred supported – and all have various incentives to bolster high-tech and clean energy manufacturing.
